A PRAYER FOR THE SICK AND AFFLICTED

Dearest Mary, Mother of Consolation, please join your prayers to my own. Look upon my difficulties with love and help me to understand and accept them.

Loving Mother, Health of the Sick, I grow so impatient. There are many days when I grow so weary of this affliction. Many are the times when, in my heart, I cry out to God and ask Him, Why me? What did I do to deserve this distress?

At times, Mary, the pain and hurt invade my very spirit, placing a veil between my God and myself. Please help me to overcome these days, Mary. In your gentle kindness, help me to see and feel the unending love of God, which I know is always there.

You accepted and lived the will of Our Father in your life. Help me to accept the Father’s will for me, for I know that in His will is love.

Dear Mother of Consolation, help me by your prayers to be freed from this affliction if it be God’s will. Above all else, teach me to accept my difficulty and to see in this a deepening union with your Son, through His cross, that blessed sign of His special love for me. Amen.

To Our Lady of Sorrows

I compassionate thee, O most sorrowful Mother!

Thy heart was pierced with a sword of grief when Simeon foretold to thee in the Temple the ignominious death and the desolation of thy divine and most dear Son, which thou west destined one day to witness.

By the great anguish of thy suffering heart, O gracious Queen of the universe, impress upon my mind, in life and in death, the sacred Passion of Jesus and shine own sorrows. Amen.

ST. ALPHONSUS MARIA DE LIGUORI

The Virgin to Her Son on Calvary

Thou goest to sacrifice Thyself as a propitiation for all men.
Peter, who said that he would die with Thee, does not come to Thee.
Thomas, who said, "Let us all die with Him," has forsaken Thee.
Not one of these is with Thee, but Thou art led forth alone, Thou who didst preserve me immaculate, my Son and my God.
They who promised to go with Thee into prison and to die with Thee have forsaken Thee and have fled.
Not one of these is with Thee, but Thou art led forth alone, Thou who didst preserve me immaculate, my Son and my God.

DAY ONE

Our Lady of Sorrows, Labor day usually brings to mind images of factory workers, farmers or heavy equipment operators. Yet we also use labor to describe the first work which brought each one of us to birth: those first hours of maternal sacrifice which brought us into the world. It's too easy to forget that and all the other sacrifices which the vocation of motherhood entails. Pray for the mothers in labor today, those who give birth, those who work two jobs to support a child, those who go without so their child's needs are met, those whose patient endurance is a sign of God's love upon the cross.

DAY TWO

Our Lady of Sorrows, Pray for Mothers who will Give Birth Today. 'At first I was scared,' Sarah told me. 'I was scared, excited and filled with the most incredible expectation. It was like those words we hear at Mass: we wait in joyful hope. I thought of all those women who feel the first kick, the stirrings of life deep within them. I prayed for them, that they would love their child, cherish their little baby and know that in being a mother they are involved in something so much bigger than themselves. They have been chosen by God to be custodians of the mystery of life. At first I was scared, and then I just cried ... with joy.'

DAY THREE

Our Lady of Sorrows, 'At first I was petrified", Jon told me, "petrified that I would faint or get in the way or not know what to do to help Sarah. But then I prayed to Mary. I know, praying to Mary is something you would think a mother would be doing. But somehow, I think Mary understood Saint Joseph more than anyone else. She probably saw the fear in his eyes and sensed the restlessness of his heart. She probably spent a lot of time praying for him as well. And when I prayed to Mary for my child about to be born, I knew she understood and heard me and prayed for me to her Son. At first I was petrified, and then I put everything into God's hands."

DAY FOUR

Our Lady of Sorrows, the eyes of a child are an infinite well of life, hope and goodness. If you doubt the value of life, look into the eyes of a child. If you are worn by life's worries, look into the eyes of a child. If you want to see tomorrow, look into the eyes of a child. And what you will see is the divine spark which brought beauty out of chaos, the infinite beauty, which is the presence of the Creator in his creation.

DAY FIVE

Our Lady of Sorrows, I know of a family which prays each night. Since the kids were little they are gathered from their games and their grumbling to the couch in the living room. There they pray for those whom they love and those they have a hard time loving. They pray for the unborn and for little babies. They pray for the sick and the dying. They pray for the Church and for their priest. Many a night it was the knowledge of those prayers that gave me hope and peace and a good night's sleep.

DAY SIX

Our Lady of Sorrows, I know of another family which used to pray for unborn children every Friday night. They chose Friday because that's when Christ, innocent and without sin, was sent to the cross. There's no prayer more powerful than that said over little folded hands asking God to take care of all the babies who you've made.

DAY SEVEN

Our Lady of Sorrows, Sunday is a time to take stock. We look all around us at Church and see them: all the people whose kids never seem to scream and who look like they haven't a problem in the world! But what if we really knew them? We would see the 'secret sufferings' that mirror our own. That's the meaning of Sunday, after all. It is the gathering of those who have looked at the their own brokenness through the lens of the cross, and live! Sunday is the perfect day to pray for all God's broken children and especially those who are tempted to break the lives of others.

DAY EIGHT

Our Lady of Sorrows, Each time I pray, I am called to join my prayer with Christ's perfect prayer upon the cross. It is easy from the vantage of the cross to see the world clearly, tTo see how easy it is to join the suffering of the innocent to the suffering of him who is without sin. We should work for an end to all the forms of violence which threaten life. That is a wonderful good. But it is even more important to stand with the Virgin Mother and to beg her Son to come to our aid.

DAY NINE

Our Lady of Sorrows, we end as we began nine days ago: with Mary, weeping silently beside the cross. weeping for the innocent child so violently taken, weeping for the nation which has let him die, weeping for her Child and for our, we place them both in her arms.

A PRAYER TO OUR LADY OF SORROWS

Dearest Mother, before you could become the Consoler of the Afflicted, you first had to know true sorrow. I pause with you now, and meditate on that great suffering in your life, the death and burial of your most beloved Son.

Oh, how humble I am, dear Mary, when I see before me your Son in the tomb. He gave His life so we may know freedom from sin. Remind me always that any suffering in my life is passing, just as the suffering you experienced passed in the joy of the Resurrection.

Holy Mary, Mother of Sorrows, I mourn with you, knowing the certain joy of your Son and His gift of everlasting life. Through this act of His, you have become our Mother of Consolation. Amen.

A PRAYER IN SPECIAL TIME OF NEED

Mary, Loving Mother of Consolation, I turn to you now in this time of need. I come to you confused and fearful, anxious as a little child.

I know you really are my Mother. You see me with eyes filled with love and understanding. Touch me through your prayers and hold me in your love, that I might continue strong and unafraid in these days of difficulty and hurt.

Gentle Mother, I now confide to you my greatest need (pause and reflect). Please pray that the loving will of Our Father may always come first in my heart and in my mind.

Help me to reflect on the needs in your own life, Mary, the days when you, too, knew concern, fear, loneliness and grief. You always turned to Our Father and gave yourself to Him completely. You knew His love and showed us how to live in it.

When I remember the love of your Blessed Son for me, I am less afraid. When I think of you I can smile. Pray for me, Mary. Guide me always in your love, and lead me to your Son, Jesus. Amen.

A MOTHER’S PRAYER FOR HER CHILDREN

Mary, Mother of Consolation, be with me now as I pray for my children. You, who bore the most perfect Child, know a mother’s concern for her children. You are the finest example of motherhood. Open your heart to my prayer.

There are times, Blessed Mary, when I feel so confused. My love for my children always directs me to do those things each day which will be good for them.

I always try to act in a way which will help them to be better Christians. It is often difficult for me to know what is right. Mary, please guide me through my doubts. Help me to know what is right. Help me to direct and raise my children, not for my own satisfaction, but for the glory of God.

Oh Queen of Heaven, my children are so frail in this world. Help me to guide them to know and love Our Heavenly Father. It is through His will that I have these children. They are truly His gift.

At this time, Blessed Mother of Consolation, I place my children under your care and protection. I know you will help them just as you have helped me. Keep us in your love, always. Amen.

A PRAYER FOR PATIENCE

Blessed Mary, Mother of Consolation, pray with me for the virtue of patience. There are so many times when my lack of patience keeps me from becoming the kind of person God wants me to be.

Guide my thoughts to you and the example we have in your own life. Help me to become patient, as you were patient. Through your guidance, may I become more accepting of others around me. Assist me to welcome difficult times with a patient heart.

May I be patient, Mary, as was your beloved husband, Joseph. His quiet acceptance of the will of Our Loving Father should be an example for me always. His patience was most wonderful in the eyes of God.

Pray for me, dear Mother of God, that I will allow the Father to come into my heart and help me grow in patience. Amen.

The Chaplet of Our Lady's Tears

This Rosary was revealed to Sr. Amalia in Campina, Brazil in 1929 and 1930 by Our Lord and His most holy Mother. It was confirmed supernatural by Bishop Campos Baretto.
Our Lords words to Sister Amalia on November 8, 1929 were: "My daughter, whatever I am asked through the tears of My Mother, I shall give lovingly." On March 8, 1930 the most Pure Mother stated: "Through this rosary the devil will be subdued and the power of Hell will be destroyed. Prepare yourself for this great combat." Today the devil has much power because we have forgotten sin and no longer believe that Satan exists.

Pray on the cross
Crucified Jesus! We fall at Your feet and offer You the tears of her who with deep compassionate love accompanied You on Your sorrowful way of the Cross.  Grant, O Good Master, that we take to heart the lessons which the tears of Your most holy Mother teach us, so that we may fulfill Your holy will on earth, that we may be worthy to praise and exalt You in Heaven for all eternity. Amen.

Instead of Our Father, say:
O Jesus, look upon the tears of her who loved You most on earth
And loves You most ardently in Heaven.

Instead of the Hail Mary, say:
O Jesus, hear our prayers
For the sake of the tears of your most holy Mother.

At the end: (3 times)
O Jesus, look upon the tears of her who loved You most on earth
And loves You most ardently in Heaven.

Conclude with this prayer:
O Mary, Mother of love, sorrow and mercy, we beg you to unite your prayers with our so that Jesus, your Divine Son, to Whom we turn may hear our petitions in the name of your maternal tears and grant us in addition to the favors we ask now, the crown of everlasting life. Amen.

Stabat Mater dolorósa
iuxta crucem lacrimósa,
dum pendébat Fílius.

Cuius ánimam geméntem,

O quam tristis et afflícta

Nati poenas íncliti.

Quis est homo qui non fleret,

Quis non posset contristári,
piam Matrem contemplári
doléntem cum Fílio?

Pro peccátis suæ gentis

Vidit suum dulcem Natum
moriéndo desolátum,
dum emísit spíritum.

Fac me tecum pie flere,

Iuxta crucem tecum stare,

Virgo vírginum præclára,

fac me tecum plángere.

Fac ut portem Christi mortem,

At the cross her station keeping
stood the mournful Mother weeping,
close to Jesus to the last.

Through her heart, His sorrow sharing,
all His bitter anguish bearing
now at lenght the sword had passed.

Oh, how sad and sore distressed
was that Mother highly blessed,
of the sole-begotten One!

Christ above in torment hangs,
she beneath beholds the pangs
of her dying, glorious Son.

Is there one who would not weep,
'whelmed in miseries so deep,
Christ's dear Mother to behold?

Can the human heart refrain
from partaking in her pain,
in that Mother's pain untold?

Bruised, derided, cursed, defiled,
she beheld her tender Child
All with scourges rent.

For the sins of His own nation,
saw Him hang in desolation,
Till His spirit forth He sent.

O sweet Mother! fount of love!
Touch my spirit from above,
make my heart with thine accord.

Make me feel as thou hast felt;
make my soul to glow and melt
with the love of Christ, my Lord.

Holy Mother! pierce me through,
in my heart each wound renew
of my Savior crucified.

Let me share with thee His pain,
who for all our sins was slain,
who for me in torments died.

Let me mingle tears with thee,
mourning Him who mourned for me,
all the days that I may live.

By the Cross with thee to stay,
there with thee to weep and pray,
is all I ask of thee to give.

Virgin of all virgins blest!,
Listen to my fond request:
let me share thy grief divine;

Let me, to my latest breath,
in my body bear the death
of that dying Son of thine.

Wounded with His every wound,
steep my soul till it hath swooned,
in His very Blood away;

Be to me, O Virgin, nigh,
lest in flames I burn and die,
in His awful Judgment Day.

Christ, when Thou shalt call me hence,
by Thy Mother my defense,
by Thy Cross my victory;

While my body here decays,
may my soul Thy goodness praise,
safe in paradise with Thee. Amen.
